Journal

This is an ongoing record of journeys, encounters and observations gathered through time spent working, travelling and living in close relationship with land.

Much of my practice unfolds in the field — on farms, across landscapes, and alongside people whose lives are shaped by the ecosystems they are part of. This journal holds fragments from that process: notes, images, reflections and stories that emerge through movement, participation and listening.

These experiences have taken many forms. At times they have been structured projects — working on farms, collaborating with communities, or developing films. At others, they have been more open-ended journeys, guided by curiosity, intuition and a desire to understand how people live with land in different contexts.

In 2021, I travelled 1,200 miles on horseback from John O’Groats to Land’s End as part of The Climate Ride — a journey shaped by a commitment to environmental education and a search for connection across landscapes. Other periods have been spent working in conservation and storytelling projects in East and southern Africa, or embedding within farms and ecological initiatives closer to home.

What connects these experiences is a way of moving through the world: slowly, attentively, and in relationship with place.

This journal is not a finished narrative, but a living archive — a space to share glimpses of the process behind the work. It sits alongside my film and art practice, offering a more immediate, in-progress view of the landscapes, people and ideas that continue to shape it.
